This is a digital manipulation of an original watercolour painting
It was actually more like a 5 stage process to get to this point:
1. I painted a watercolour landscape of fields
2. To add some interest I painted fine lines across the sky to create a slightly rainy effect. I also painted lines across the fields.
3. I used a fine liner pen to draw the tree onto the landscape
4. I used white acrylic paint to make the tree stand out.
5. I used Photoshop to digitally enhance and colour. I used multiple layers and effects including - neon glow, cut out, film grain, fresco, smudge stick, poster edges, overlay, linear light, colour dodge, pin light, multiply and vivid light - all at varying opacities.

It was a 5 stage process to get to this point:
1. I painted a slightly dull watercolour landscape of fields
2. To add some interest I painted fine lines across the sky to create a slightly rainy effect. I also painted lines across the fields.
3. I used a fine liner pen to draw the tree onto the landscape
4. I used white acrylic paint to make the tree stand out.

For anyone new to Photoshop I'd recommend trying adding a layer of a 2nd image over your first - you can then try changing the layer style and opacity to see what effects you get. 'Multiply' is one of the best for adding brightness

Raptor Moses
image
This drawing is meant to be cute and humorous. I read the complete bible a couple of years ago but didn't think to draw the parting of the red sea by a bunch of raptors until 2009. I used prismacolor color pencils so that I could get the detail I needed for the sea and the skin on the raptors. Because of their oily makeup, the prismacolor pencils also allowed me to blend the colors in the waves to get the visual impression of water. Art lovers might enjoy this artwork for it's unique approach to one of the most famous moments in the Christian bible. :)
Night and Day

I was overlooking art from one of my favorite artists, Naoko Takeuchi, when I made this drawing. I always admire sunsets and wanted to convey those colors and also decided to incorporate the dual nature of the moon and the sun. The colors were created with watercolor. I used handmade stencils for the stars and clouds in the background and went over them with prismacolor color pencils. A golden paint pen was used for the lining and rays. I have been inspired to use gold pens since looking over the work of Gustav Klimt and studying how he used gold for his artwork. I feel that I succeeded in my artistic vision for this drawing.
Mother and Baby
image
I often wonder about motherhood and what it means to care for another human being. Like much of my artwork, the style in this drawing was influenced by nouveau (such as the work of Alphonse Mucha) and vintage poster art. I saw an advertisement in a greeting card book that used the colors pistachio and brown and wanted to recreate that color scheme in this drawing. I don't know why I colored the woman's hair purple- it seemed like a nice enough color so I went with it. I also decided to use some pastel colors to give the mother and baby a soft visual appearance. The lettering is a result of my exploration with lines and letting them tell me where they want to go.
Irish Raptor
image
Saint Patrick's day was coming up and I wanted to do a holiday themed drawing my way- with a raptor! In this drawing I used prismacolor color pencils to achieve bright colors and for blending. I wanted to do a simple drawing so I tried to think of objects that immediately bring to mind Ireland or Saint Patrick's, and decided a clover and an Irish beer mug did the trick. The green in the background is used to reinforce the Irish theme. This artwork would make a great print.
