A Night at the Opera

Sydneys' Iconic Opera House, early evening, and the parties are starting to fire up. Thanks to a 30th Birthday on the night, the front of the western side was nice and colourful.

While showing off the Opera House to my father in law from China I took the opportunity to sneak in some more shots of the ol' girl. I just love this building!
Postcard Revisited

Approximately 10 years ago I took a shot of the Sydney icon using a $16 camera and after posting it on Flickr many years later I later enjoyed much success. It sits today on Explore at #50 and of all photos tagged sydneyoperahouse it ranks #15 out of 7000 odd pics.
Today I went to our famous harbour in an effort to recreate that now famous shot using digital. It still looks good in digital but that glow that film possesses is missing I think.

Postcard Opera House

Taken quite some time ago now on an old cheap camera. Was amazed at how well the shot came out. Was taken around 1996 I think. Just around the time Crowded House was to play their last ever gig at this very venue... outside! Yes that's almost 10 years now gone by! Amazing eh?
As for the Geo Mapping on this pic (you'll find that to the right of this pic) it's fairly accurate as to the positioning of this photo to about (approx) 10 metres.
Sydney - A Must See

Regular visitors to my photos know about my love for this magnificent modern wonder. This is a shot I took that I have previously overlooked and decided to place up here as I have been relatively quiet on Flickr for 2008.
I just hope you people from overseas get the chance to make that long journey here to see it for yourself!
Sydney's Favourite House

We're a proud bunch. We love our sun. We love our sport and our sporting heroes. But we are not famous for being a... how could you put it... cultured lot. But thanks to Utzon's designed Opera House and many years of hard work by a dedicated (and possibly homesick lot of Europeans) art loving lot, Australia's work in the arts has come along in leaps and bounds. If only you could see what Sydney looked like in the 50's and 60's!
