This photo took some work to get -- but I was trying for something like the South Carolina state flag with the palmetto tree and the crescent moon. Andy was sitting on the cliff on Monhegan Island and I added the two side shots. Took a long time combining them all. 'The Maid of The West', Ashleam, Achill 3 Mark F Chaddock image The 'Maid of the West' or 'Queen of The West' as it is know by locals is situated in Ashleam bay on Achill island's famous 'Atlantic drive'. It is a stac and is a famous landmark, photographed millions of times. In a bad storm in january this year(2009), it lost its top. Now the top third is missing, a diagonal separation running at a 45 degree angle has sadly, altered it a little. Still worth visiting. this is it before the loss.
