The light was golden and very bright - I had to use my sunglasses- , the sky pink, purple, white and blue. There is very few to see: some houses, a flock of birds and an endless horizon. Frozen Time II Frozen Time II image 30 seconds that have been frozen this time. Note: the sea is not frozen, only time... You should really see this Large On White Part 2 of the new series with long exposures. This one is shot on the beach of Scheveningen in The Hague. The part you see is part of the famous Scheveningen Pier, taken while standing right under the enormous pier that also hosts a casino. If you want to know how this shot looks like in colour and treated by a colour expert then check out this version by isayx3 who used this same shot for his PP friday, just check it out, it's amazing. Why would you take long exposure shots during broad daylight, someone asked me. Well that can be for various reasons, but very often it is to capture motion in such a way it becomes smooth and solid. It is better to view this one Large On Black Part 3 of the new series with long exposures. This one is shot on the beach/harbour of Flushing (Vlissingen) in Holland. A different setting than the previous long exposure shots, a bit darker mood also. I've been calling these shots long exposure shots but in fact they are medium exposure shots. Long exposure shots usually starts from 60 seconds and longer. You will see my long exposure shots from 10 minutes and longer in the near future. But this series also has a hidden more personal meaning for me. I'm not going to bother you with that. Although this photo has nothing to do with cinematography the idea behind this has some similarities, and I just thought it was a nice title for a new series. In this new series the emphasis will be more on architectural shots and combining this with long exposures. Usually I would take a shot like this from a different angle, very often standing much closer to the architectural object that I want to capture to create a dramatic and dynamic feel. But when I saw the cloud formation I decided to step back a few metres. Although I didn't know beforehand what the actual result would be, I was quite pleased with the final result. Time lapse IV Time lapse IV image View On Black Part 4 of a new series on day time long exposures called Time Lapse Time-lapse is a cinematography technique whereby each film frame is captured at a rate much slower than it will be played back. Although this photo has nothing to do with cinematography the idea behind this has some similarities, and I just thought it was a nice title for a new series. In this new series the emphasis will be more on architectural shots and combining this with long exposures. Again not an architectural shot. Some trees on a hill in the southern part of the Netherlands (Holland). I did a long exposure to capture the motion of the clouds. Part 1 of a new series on day time long exposures called Squares Squares is all about square format long exposure shots. I applied some new concepts on this one. Instead of the usual dramatic sky, I've shifted the drama to the lower parts. Some may question if this is architecture, I think it is, anyway it is man built. This one is dedicated to one of my Flickr friends Joshua Wyborn. Although only being 17 he's already shown a high level of depth and maturity in his work that other more experienced B&W photographers can only dream of. His understanding of light, contrasts, tonality, mood and all of the finer skills in B&W photography is amazing for someone his age. My word, the world will hear more of him in the years to come. The photo was used for the U2 album cover. I have been inspired by his works and thought I would do one with lines on the horizon, hence my title... The sea is my muse, it gives me freedom to express myself, artistic freedom and inspiration like no other subject can. Rather than taking a few shots of a thousand different subjects on a thousand different locations, I prefer to stick with the subject that gives me an infinite amount of ideas... Still I love architecture, portraiture and still lifes and you will see them in my stream ocassionally. It was storming pretty hard today. I still have beachsand in my eyes and hair. It was very hard to keep my tripod still for a few minutes, a lot of shots have failed just because of the hard wind.
