Mike 3--26 Mental Patients & 1 Janitor
image
Mike was the nicest guy, a little shy, it was hard to believe he was in the hospital because he took a gun and shot himself in the eye. One can see the bandage over his right eye. Also plastic surgeons had fixed his nose as best they could but it still stuck over his left eye some. Mike was one of my best friends there. We never discussed him shooting himself.
Bob--26 Mental Patients & 1 Janitor
image
Bob I remember being kinda goofy, he really liked to joke around; didn't take anything serious and was a pain in the ass to the staff. And he was tall and lanky too. Young tall, and lanky. from "26 Mental Patients & 1 Janitor"
Afternoon Nap--26 Mental Patients & 1 Janitor
image
This drawing shows an unknown patient taking an afternoon nap. Afternoon naps were very popular after classes and before supper. Just the sheer weight of nothing to do made you want to sleep through it all.
Steve--26 Mental Patients & 1 Janitor
image
Steve kinda slumped but he was physically fit. He had just been through army boot camp. I don't know what happened that he ended up in the loony bin. No he didn't finish 2 years in the army. He got discharged for some reason. I think he was sad.
William--26 Mental Patients & 1 Janitor
image
William was one of the oldest ambulatory patients on the ward. He simply didn't talk. from "26 Mental Patients & 1 Janitor"
Steve--26 Mental Patients & 1 Janitor
image
Don't remember anything about this guy except he kinda had his stuff together and he was fun but he might have been a sociopath.
Unknown--26 Mental Patients & 1 Janitor
image
Quiet, schizophrenic, grumpy didn't socialize much. Men and women were on different wards but sometimes the ladies would come to our ward to socialize, to bum cigarettes, or just to be someplace else, cause the place was so dam boring. from "26 Mental Patients & 1 Janitor"
Peter--26 Mental Patients & 1 Janitor
image
Peter was the kinda guy that would act like he liked you, then do something hostile. He was a real nice guy/mean guy kind of fellow. But I liked him anyway. You just had to know that he was gonna lash out at ya once and a time.
Diane--26 Mental Patients & 1 Janitor
image
Diane was sweet and fragile. Her nervous eyes and ready smile hid some pain from us. from "26 Mental Patients & 1 Janitor"
Charles---26 Mental Patients & 1 Janitor
image
Charles was the only portrait I painted in two sittings. This was because of his remarkable ability to lean back in his chair, close his eyes, and ignore me.
Brad--26 Mental Patients & 1 Janitor
image
Brad. I don't remember him or painting the portrait but it is one of the better ones.
