The ground is snow patchy covered, but it was this tree, so elegant, almost wise, that caught my attention. I felt with this image, the B&W feel really bought out the dramatic feel of the place. September - Religious image Glendalough (Irish: Gleann Dá Loch, meaning Glen of Two Lakes) is a glacial valley located in County Wicklow, Ireland. The monastery was started in the 6th century -- the oldest grave I could read the date on was from 1686 I think. (I 'think' because I 'read' the gravestone with my fingers, digging under the holly and lichens to feel out the numbers....but they were pretty degraded, so I'm not positive of the last number.) The graveyard is still active, as of this posting, though some years ago, they proposed to close it and started a register of people who were alive at that time, and had family plots, and wanted to be buried in Glendalough. There are only seven people left on the register. There are graves everywhere. Some of them have very elabourate plots and headstones. Some have bare nubs left to mark where a headstone used to be. lost city image They say a city named Pelegrin was once here. It went down to the sea, drowned with all the citizens, and no one knows why anymore. But, they say - every thousand years a beautiful woman comes out of the waves, riding a white horse.
