Description
For 7 years, Ron Hannah (Canadian) and Ruth Forbes (Australian) wandered the world, backpacking, occasionally teaching English, house-sitting, Wwoofing, and Couchsurfing in China, SE Asia, Australia and Latin America. When they started out they were in their late 50s, retired, and existing only on a small pension. This is an account of their time on the road, sometimes wonderful, sometimes awful, always entertaining. It is also a practical guide on what to take, dealing with visas and border crossings, money issues, foods, theft, beggars and health concerns. In addition, there are several charts detailing costs from country to country. We hope this little book will be an encouragement for others of our generation to put fear behind them and set out on a grand adventure. It is also a useful guide to anyone, regardless of age, who wants to break out and go wandering. It's neither expensive to do nor difficult if you follow a few basic rules: Humour, Acceptance and Flexibility. A grand Universe is out there, full of generous people - all that is necessary is to step out!
