Fall has come gone....
image
Rochester never seems to get a good fall. Definitely no weekend fall weather. The rains seems to have destroyed most of the fall colors.
Anyway, ever since I got my new camera, I haven't had the chance to shoot during day time with some Sun. Weekends have been either rainy or busy. Decided to take some pictures in the evening out on our deck. I wanted to take a couple of more shots, but had to bail out. Wish I had used the live view to check if the water is in focus. :-) Still don't remember all the features I have at hand. BTW this is a hand held shot with IS turned on.
Used Lightroom to apply the aged photo look.

Watkins Glen State Park.
I was amazed by the depth and the narrowness of the gorge.

Simple shot. Pop the camera out the window (double check on the strap and make sure that you are holding on to it) and fire the shutter.
Sea of Pigeons
image
I was born in Mattancherry; I go there almost every year for my summer vacation. But I didn't know about this Jain Temple, with its Amazing Pigeons.
On way to Munnar

Scenes like this one make it easy for an amateur photographer like me. You can't make much mistakes.
Taken from the Neriyamangalam bridge.
Kerala, India.
Photo taken on the route from Kochi to Munnar. We must have started around 9:45AM and we reached around 3:30PM.

Nature is off limits

On the way back from Mattupetty Dam we stopped along the way to get these tea estate shots.
If you are ever going to shoot a tea garden, and fresh leaves; do it on a cloudy day.
Kolukkumalai Tea Plantation
image
At Kolukkumalai, tea is grown at an altitude of around 8000ft. This is world's highest grown tea. And the best part, the processing it done at the top of the hill at around 7500ft, in factory built in the 1930s.
The drive up to the top of the mountain is the craziest experience you will ever have. You have rent a 4x4 jeep, which take almost 1.5 hrs to cover single lane mud/stone road up to the top. The distance is only 15Kms, extremely bumpy and when you see another jeep coming from the opposite direction and you see your driver backing up - you pretty much freak out! But one look at the scene around you, you lift up the camera, start taking pictures and forget all about the jeep which even if it were to get off the road wouldn't roll down all the way because, we were told that, the tea plantation is strong and good roots, it can easily hold a truck.

This tractor seemed like an interesting subject but I didn't get one impressive shot.

I am very good about removing redundant shots. But somehow in case of these [cloudy mountain] shots, I have decided to keep them.

@ Lake Erie State Park Beach.
Another attempt at non-traditional shot. This time the car was stationary, so was able to get a decent focus of the drops.

This was the view from our hotel room window in Munnar.

Just like how the tree branch is extending thru the entire length of the frame.

Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary
image
Heavily Photoshop'ed image. Let me know what your thoughts are.
Taken during the evening boat ride in the sanctuary. The yellow light from the setting sun, the reflection from the water, and the fact that I was using pattern metering instead of spot resulted in busted exposures on most of the shots. :( I guess I was too tired. I have tried to patch things up in Lightroom and Photoshop, but not sure if I have done a decent job (coz I am color blind and shouldn't be messing with colors too much).

Spice Village Hotel, Thekkady
[forgot to reduce the aperture for this shot, not at all sharp]
Since we were touring during the off-season, the place was deserted. And even during the season, I wonder if anyone hangs-out over here, considering that there so is much to do just a few kilometers away.
Our driver recommended this place for lunch, primarily because of the decor and the way the place it is setup. Indeed, this hotel is very different. It is earth friendly, and very serene. The food was okay, but pricey. Menu seemed to be heavily in favour of non-vegetarians.
More about this hotel over here.
