Emissions Emissions C.R.D. Larson image My response to Proposition 23, an initiative on the November 2010 California ballot which would have suspended indefinitely Assembly Bill 32, our Green Energy initiative. The quote comes from Texas oil company Valero's CEO, Bill Kleese, (pictured in the piece) who made that and other inflammatory statements in attempts to sway California voters to pass Proposition 23. Stop Signing Stop Signing C.R.D. Larson image Colored pens on paper. My somewhat tongue-in-cheek jab at commercialism. The entire drawing is composed of my signature, repeated by hand thousands of times in the form of a stop sign. By making this piece and titling it "Stop Signing," I am trying to remind people across the wide field of the arts that what we put forward as artists should stem from creative drive and expression, not empty hype/marketing or selling a name or image. The irony in this is, in order to be a marketable success, and earn money through our artistic creations, we must create a recognizable name/image, at least in most cases. In my artistic call to anonymity, and renouncing self-promotion, I utilize only my signature to do so, the most personal and least anonymous design element that I could employ to compose my piece. Mutant Mutant C.R.D. Larson image Mixed media. I took this image from one of my original black and white drawings and colored it in Photoshop. Mud Creek Flyer Mud Creek Flyer C.R.D. Larson image Digital composition. Logo, design, and flyer for 2010's Mud Creek Music and Collectibles Market, which took place in June 2010 in McCloud, CA beneath majestic Mt. Shasta. While the event saw only a modest public turnout, both patrons and vendors, plus the local press, were wowed by the caliber of goods and free musical performances at the outdoor two-day festival. Stop The Addiction Stop The Addiction C.R.D. Larson image We as Americans need to band together and demand an end to our national petroleum addiction. It is destructive, outdated, and deadly to both man and environment. Even with the sad state of today's auto industry, there are choices for non-petroleum and minimal-petroleum cars manufactured in the U.S.A., such as the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid (supposedly available soon) and the several fully electric offerings from Silicon Valley's Tesla Motors, available now. Act today!

Spaceface 3 Spaceface 3 C.R.D. Larson image 11"x14" colored pens on paper. The third in my series of creepy mask-like "Spacefaces." This one took me to an entirely new level in terms of thinking out my composition. Colors, shapes, and iconic elements are each treated as separate entities in the background of the piece and repeat in conflicting directions and patterns. In the foreground, the eyes of this disturbing, leering face are portals into space, a view of the solar system. The sun is the pupil of the left eye of the face, with all of the planets orbiting around in this spaced-out vision. Poor Pluto, stripped of its planetary status by cold-hearted astronomers, sits by its lonesome as the iris and pupil of the face's right eye, Lonely Bar Lonely Bar C.R.D. Larson image 22"x28" watercolor on paper. I like treating watercolor paints like acrylics. Oh, and I tend err slightly on the side of paranoia, a feeling which is amplified when I imbibe. I am sure that I am not alone in sometimes feeling eyes upon me when I am completely by myself... Capitol Heatwave Capitol Heatwave C.R.D. Larson image 12"x12" pen on paper. An early psychedelic geometric representation, this time of California's capital in the summertime. The piece is characterized by a rather simplistic but iconic sunburst pattern which dominates the composition, with a small Sacramento icons withering in the heat. In a private collection. Music Ear Music Ear C.R.D. Larson image 8.5"x11" colored pens on paper. Very abstracted spiraling ear pricks up the sounds of a record in the foreground, pulling a trail of musical notes into the ear canal. The skin of this completely psychedelic music aficionado is entirely aglow in musical instruments and devices set against ghastly blues and greens, as if for a sickly Carnival-themed rock concert. Psychedelic Nude Psychedelic Nude C.R.D. Larson image 8.5"x11" colored pens on paper. Art has been boring me for the most part lately. Everybody's doing things that I don't personally connect with; that's why I do my own art. Ironically, in all actuality, most who view my work probably won't personally connect with it either. As I am connected to this piece, however, let me say a few things about it, in hopes that it touches upon something in you as well. Sure, at first glance, it's easy to get; a nude, probably attractive woman against a soft, warm, inviting curvaceous background of barely imaginably sexual shapes. That is true, but I drew this with more in mind for those who care to look deeper. Both the composition of the nude woman and the background that she appears on are synthesized from individual, disparate geometric icons. These shapes and lines, lifeless and abstract on their own, meld into larger, familiar figures and designs. Even if we cannot see all we wish to on an individual level, sometimes we all have to trust that our individual, harsh, and disparate realities will at some time be united together as a more beautiful whole.

Overwhelming Attraction Overwhelming Attraction C.R.D. Larson image 30"x40" acrylic on canvas. "Overwhelming Attraction" serves two main purposes for me, which may seem slightly contradictory. First and foremost, the painting celebrates my love for women; their beauty, intelligence, breasts, backsides, and the fleeting allure that twinkles in the place a women stood for a few seconds after she departs the room. Along the lines of fleeting glimpses, and the impoliteness of staring, comes the second function of "Overwhelming Attraction." With so much colorful geometric complexity, I hope to achieve a sensation where the viewer is drawn and compelled to not look at the subject matter. In using intricate geometric patterns and color repeats, it is my goal to agitate the eye of the viewer, with ever-competing elements causing one's gaze to dart around in one of several directions whenever it tries to focus on one particular area. My goal is that such constant eye movement will make the viewer take significantly longer in fully capturing all of the details of the main subject matter. Note: My efforts are most successful when this piece is viewed at the largest possible size. Crack Coalcaine-Stop The Addiction Crack Coalcaine-Stop The Addiction C.R.D. Larson image Mixed media. America needs to end its addiction to dangerous, obsolete technology. Green technology is the way of the future; we are past the point as Americans where we can decide whether or not to change to a renewable power grid. We must choose to willingly implement green energy now or else face the prospect of being forced to change at the behest and demands of more innovative and progressive foreign nations. The Light Is My Shepherd The Light Is My Shepherd C.R.D. Larson image 8.5"x11" black pen on cardstock Stop following your TV. Stop regurgitating sound bytes and textual snippets from social media as fact because they emotionally touch you. Gather information from a variety of sources, enlighten yourself and others through informed conversation, and above all, form a decision and think for yourself. Spiral Love Spiral Love C.R.D. Larson image 11"x14" colored pens on paper. Valentines Day inspired heart drawing, deeply rooted in geometric design. Sold to private collector in 2010.
